Hoppers all afternoon. Caddis all evening. Drakes at dusk. Yes, it was that good when Diane and David showed up at the Columbia hoping to learn a thing or two about dry-fly fishing. Now, they have enough stories to start a new shelf in the family library.
Big 'bows are eating foam on the hopper banks as summer heat sets in. The same heat is bringing off thick caddis hatches through late afternoon and evening. Drakes round out the offering when they start appearing among the caddis like boulders among gravel.
The trout are eating them all, and Diane and David left the West Kootenays this week after stellar back-to-back days on the Columbia and Slocan rivers. They then headed to Fernie to spend two days fishing the Elk River with Dave Brown Outfitters, rounding out an epic B.C. fishing experience.
