Maine Cod Fishing Report August 11th, 2009

It was tough to pry myself from the hot Striper bite that I've been fishing down on the Kennebec...but today 08/11/09 I did an offshore trip with Reid Mayback and his friend Andrew from the Orlando, Florida area....we caught tons of Codfish we also had a double header of ocean pout(aka conger)...The whales were rolling around us including a pod of about 12-15 pilot whales, other whales seen were minke and finback...what a fun trip!!!

Yesterday(08/10/09) I did a double header cod trip the first trip of the day featured a couple from Indiana, Rick Dyer & his girlfriend Crissy. Departing the dock in Thomaston at 6:00am we blasted down river and out past the barrier islands and headed offshore to one of many ledges that are covered up in codfish...not "whale cod" mind you but plenty of smaller market fish. At the first spot it was a race to see whose butterfly jig would reach bottom first...it didn't matter...both jigs were slammed instantly upon reaching bottom...for the next four hours we had nearly non stop action....Arriving back at the dock Rick mentioned that his arms hurt from pulling on so many fish...the kind of hurt that feels good!!!

Trip two featured Pancho Shroder and his three sons from Barcelona, Spain
