Recently Steve Hopkins and I conducted a " Quail recon "mission  south of the mining town of Cananea  Sonora.We where hoping the ranch we checking out would have a good Gambles and Mearns population ,I was wrong.
Overgrazing had taken it's toll , in two days we searched the likely spots ,big canyons , a mix of small canyons with long ridges  and river bottom ..nada . For the canine members of our crew  Slick ,Speck ,Jamie and Cruz it was a tough assignment but they got through it without any trips to the Vet.
As usual the hospitality was outstanding ..along with the  food. If the rancher plays his cards properly there will be decent hunting there in a few years ,the country is amazing  the people are very gracious   and my fingers are crossed.
