Black River, AZ Fly Fishing Report
April 26, 2011
Spent the late morning fishing the Black River in East Central Arizona. With a below average snow pack and limited run off, the river was running just above base flow. The water was slightly stained, but offered good visibility. I caught three small brown's 8, 10, and 11, all in deep fast moving cuts. The fish hit a brown #16 VFG Nymph, dropped off a #12 Blue Winged Olive.

Black River, AZ Fly Fishing Report
Fly fished the Black River in the Apache National Forest. We parked near the junction of County Road 24 and 83 and hiked west to the river. Caught 4 Browns, with the largest being a 12 incher. Used a dry/dropper set up with one taking a Royal Stimulator and three taking the VFG Nymph (brown and amber). Reports from my fishing buddies encouraged me to venture down to areas on the lower part of the Black, but due to the hike into this area, we had to postpone that trek for a later time.

Hulsey Lake, AZ Fly Fishing Report
April 25, 2011
Fly fished from my float tube at Hulsey Lake near Alpine, Arizona. It's a small lake and got pushed around by the wind. Spent a few hours kicking around and caught 4 rainbows around 14 inches. All of the fish landed were on the amber and brown VFG Nymph size 16 trailing a black Wooly Bugger. Some of my fly fishing buddies broke away from their annual turkey to join me.

Casting Shadows
Beware of Spooking the Trout!!! One of the first lessons a fly fisher must learn is to "NOT" cast shadows. I just thought this would make a cool photo.
