Profile of Burney Creek, CA

Burney Creek is located in Northern California near the community that shares it's name Burney, CA. Burney Creek is situated near legendary fisheries, such as, the Pit River and Hat Creek. As seen in the photo above, the main attraction for Burney Creek is the 129 foot Burney Falls. The falls, river, store and campground are the focus of MacArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park. The falls were once called the 8th Wonder of the World by President Theodore Roosevelt.

Burney Creek is fed by an underground spring and has a healthy population of rainbow, brown, and brook trout. Fly fishing anglers above the falls will run into predominantly brookies, while below the falls and all the way to Lake Britton rainbows and browns. The lower river is a geology lesson with sections of a white powdery basalt that create stark contrasts of colors. At times, trout lying near the bottom can be seen easily against the white basalt background. Fly fishing on Burney Creek can relinquish stunning pictures of nature along with the pictures of trout caught on a fly.
