Our First Winter Storm In NorCal

Our first winter storm in NorCal brought buckets of rain, howling winds and the fruitful promise for a great Steelhead season. Yes brethren of the fly, all this fresh water running to the northwest coast should get these hardy monarchs of the river looking for their home waters again. Reports have been coming in from the Klamath, Yuba, Trinity, Lower Sac, American and Feather rivers. Until this recent storm, fish had been located staging in riffles in morning and evenings, moving to deeper pools during the day. As of this morning the Smith River near Cresent City appears to be above 3500 CFS, so lots of water moving through. Patience, wait and see when these waters clear. Whether you Spey, single-hand, swing, skate or nymph, this promises to be a great year for "chrome" in our NorCal waters. Gentleman, get your drift boats ready!

Tight lines...
