Stillwater Marathon Day one

Well, day one of the marathon is over. Four lakes today. Here's the report:

Lake 1 - Fishtrap
Started out at Fishtrap, this was just under my 40 mile limit (37 miles to the resort). This is a put and take lake that is full of Rainbows. IT has a Coffee Pot feel with channeled scablands look. It is a deep lake so there s no winter kill. Which means that the carryovers are nice! Got to the lake at 8:00 launched and had my first fish on at 8:30. Caught a total of 6 fish in less than 2 hours. The fish were rockets! Once they were hooked they launched themselves out of the water as high as 4'. Strong fish the average was 14" and the largest 18". Mike the owner of the resort is a fly fisherman and he will turn you on to exactly where to fish. If I would have stayed this would have easily been a 20+ fish day. This lake has no development excpt the resort on one end. my favorite lake of the day. BTW you could scoop up handfuls of grey scuds on the bottom. I trolled and intermediate and type 6 with a chartruese guinea carrey special. Rumor has it the resort makes a great Buffalo Burger. You gotta fish this lake.

Lake 2 - Downs
Bass, Perch and Tiger Trout. If there are Tigers in this lake they will die of old age. The lake is about 80% covered by lily pads. One hour on the water with no fish. Not Recommended.

Lake 3 - Williams
Another put and take lake with a bonus. Lots of big rainbows and Triploids planted by one of the resorts and the WDFW. Just about anything olive worked. But a bead head Chartruese Guinea soft hackles was the winner here. I fished a type 6 and let it sink quite a while then stripped it up through the zone and wham fish on. Landed 20 fish, probably hooked 50 in three hours. The average fish was 12" and strong. The Biggest was 18". Williams doesn't have the "atmosphere" of Fishtrap but it is close to the city and the fishing rocks in May and June.

Lake 4 - Badger
We've had this lake dialed in lately and I was looking forward to fishing it with the Spokane Fly Fishers. you know why they call it fishing not catching? Blanked! Not even a hit (Insert sadface emoticon). Twenty five fly siher on the lake and in 90 minutes I did not see a fish landed.

Great day on the water. Four lake fished. 90 miles on the odometer and 26 fish landed. Tomorrow.... Medical, West Medical, Silver and Clear.
